St Barnabas House celebrates Hospice Care Week

St Barnabas House celebrates Hospice Care Week

This October, hospices across the country are joining together to celebrate Hospice Care Week – a week of action that aims to raise awareness and challenge perceptions of hospice care. It’s also your chance to get involved with your local hospice, St Barnabas House, who provide vital, compassionate and free care to local people with life-limiting illnesses.

Running from 7-13 October, the theme for this year’s Hospice Care Week is ‘This is what it takes’. You can expect a look behind the scenes at the less visible work that goes into funding and providing hospice care at St Barnabas, such as all the materials and equipment necessary, and the individuals whose dedication and expertise make it all possible.

You can get involved in Hospice Care Week by registering for an event, getting in touch with the hospice about volunteering, making a donation, joining the St Barnabas Lottery or visiting one of the hospice’s 12 charity shops.

Have you ‘got what it takes’ to volunteer as a Community Companion?

Visit St Barnabas during Hospice Care Week to find out more.

St Barnabas House is inviting anyone who is interested in becoming a volunteer Community Companion to drop in to an informal volunteer recruitment open morning at the hospice on Titnore Lane, Worthing, between 10am and 12pm on Wednesday 9 October.

Community Companion volunteers provide social support to hospice patients and their carers in the local community. This might include going out for a coffee, visiting a patient at home so their carer can take a break for a couple of hours or helping with the weekly shop.
